Tsunamachi Mitsui Club, Renaissance clubhouse in Mita, Japan
The Tsunamachi Mitsui Club is a clubhouse with a Renaissance façade in Mita, set on grounds where most of the area is dedicated to garden space. The two-story main building of pale stone encloses a paved courtyard with water basins and stone lanterns.
The Mitsui family built the estate in 1913 as a guest house and had it reconstructed after the 1923 earthquake. The restoration was completed in 1929 and followed the original design.
The head chef introduced French cooking techniques that shaped the club's culinary identity and turned the estate into a dining destination in Mita. Guests today experience the same refined service in wood-paneled rooms and under tall trees in the spacious courtyard.
The grounds are located at 2-3-7 Mita and offer spaces for meals, ceremonies, and corporate gatherings. Access is limited to members and their guests.
Two trees in the garden, a Zelkova and a Machilus, are each over 500 years old. They received the designation Love Trees in 2013 because of their symbolic connection.
