Saiganji, Buddhist temple in Kumamoto, Japan

The temple features a niomon front gate made of concrete, with a stone-paved pathway leading to the main sanctuary and worship hall.

Founded in 1673 by monk Kocho and revived in 1711 by Ajari Grand Master Asahiro, the temple contains remnants of its original structures.

The temple grounds include Buddhist altars, stone monuments, a life-release pond, and traditional garden features that represent Japanese religious architecture.

Visitors should exercise caution near damaged stonework and collapsed lanterns resulting from the 2016 Kumamoto earthquake that affected the temple structures.

The temple contains a natural spring on its north side, leading to its recognition as part of Kumamoto Water Heritage.
