Sumpu Castle Park

Sumpu Castle Park extends across vast grounds with stone walls, moats, reconstructed gates, watchtowers, and traditional Japanese gardens surrounding castle ruins.

The castle grounds served as residence of Tokugawa Ieyasu, founder of the Tokugawa shogunate, who established this strategic location during the Edo period.

Four distinct strolling gardens within the park showcase traditional Japanese landscaping techniques, including the Momiji-yama garden representing Shizuoka Prefecture scenery.

Visitors can access the park through a 15-minute walk from JR Shizuoka Station, with entry fees of 200 yen for specific areas like East Otemon.

A mandarin orange tree planted by Tokugawa Ieyasu himself still stands within the park grounds, marking over 400 years of continuous growth.
