Government of Shizuoka, Governmental building in Shizuoka City, Japan
The Government of Shizuoka is the city hall of Shizuoka, located in Shizuoka Prefecture, Japan. The complex consists of a central tower known as the Aoi Tower, surrounded by several wings that house the municipal offices and administrative departments serving local residents.
The main building was constructed in 1932 on the site of a former Imperial Villa. It was later recognized as a Registered Tangible Cultural Property of Japan, which reflects its value as an example of architecture from that period.
The building stands on the grounds of a former Imperial Villa, which gives the site a particular meaning for the city. Visitors can see from the outside the characteristic early Showa-period architecture, which stands out clearly from the modern construction around it.
The city hall is within walking distance of several train stations in central Shizuoka. Its central location makes it easy to pass by during a general walk through the city center.
The assembly hall inside the building features stained glass windows, which is an unusual detail for a reinforced concrete administrative building. These decorative elements date from the original construction and have been kept in place ever since.
