静岡東急スクエア, Shopping complex in Shizuoka, Japan
Shizuoka Tokyu Square was a commercial complex with five floors above street level and a basement floor located in central Shizuoka. The building housed fashion retailers, restaurants, and specialty stores serving shoppers across multiple product categories.
The building originally operated as Shizuoka 109 before undergoing renovation and reopening under a new name in September 2017. This transformation marked a shift in how the space served local shoppers and visitors.
The space reflects contemporary shopping culture in Japan, with stores arranged to encourage browsing and discovery rather than direct shopping trips. Visitors can see how local shoppers mix everyday errands with leisure time throughout the day.
The complex was located about five minutes on foot from the North Exit of JR Shizuoka Station, making it easy to reach from train arrivals. Its position in central Shizuoka meant it sat among other shops and services in the downtown area.
The facility closed permanently on July 17, 2023, bringing an end to its run as a major shopping destination in the city. Despite its closure, the building stands as a reminder of how retail spaces in Japan evolve and sometimes disappear as shopping habits change.
