Southpot Shizuoka, Commercial and residential skyscraper in Suruga district, Japan
Southpot Shizuoka is a 25-story mixed-use building containing offices, residential apartments, shops, and hotel rooms spread across its floors. The structure serves as an integrated complex that combines work, living, and commercial spaces under one roof.
The building was completed in March 1997 as part of an urban redevelopment initiative for the area south of Shizuoka Station. It emerged to modernize the district and create a new urban center in that zone.
The third floor houses the Shizuoka Hobby Square, displaying model kits from Tamiya and Bandai manufacturers that reflect the region's strong connection to plastic model production. Visitors can see firsthand how this craft tradition shapes the local identity.
A covered pedestrian bridge connects the building directly to Shizuoka Station's south exit, providing easy access and shelter from rain. The central location makes reaching different sections of the complex simple and convenient.
The building is divided into distinct vertical zones with lower floors housing residents, middle floors dedicated to office workers, and upper floors containing hotel guests. This layered approach to mixed-use design is uncommon in most Japanese developments.
