感応寺, Buddhist temple from the Rinzai Zen sect in Aoi-ku, Japan

Kannoji Temple stands on its grounds with multiple buildings, centered around a main altar housing the Juichimen-senju Kannon statue.

The temple, established in 1194 by Shimazu Tadahisa, faced destruction in 1868 during the Meiji period but was reconstructed in 1880.

The temple preserves a rare Buddhist statue from 1445, featuring eleven faces and one thousand arms, representing the deity of mercy.

Visitors can participate in Zazen meditation sessions every Sunday morning from 8:00 to 9:00, learning Buddhist practices through guided instruction.

The temple grounds contain five mausoleum shrines housing the remains of the first Shimazu clan lords, including a bust made from volcanic ash.
