Gofukucho Tower, Mixed-use skyscraper in Aoi ward, Shizuoka, Japan
Gofukucho Tower is a mixed-use high-rise in central Shizuoka, Japan, combining apartments, offices, retail stores, and a parking facility within a single building. It rises to about 109 meters (357 feet) across 29 floors.
The tower opened in 2014 as part of efforts to strengthen the density of Shizuoka's city center through vertical development. It was built on a site that had been less intensively used before, and its construction changed the look of this part of town noticeably.
Walking through the ground floor, you notice how naturally residents, office workers, and shoppers share the same entrance and corridors without any clear separation. This mixing of daily routines in a single building is something Japanese urban life has made feel completely ordinary.
The building is in central Shizuoka within walking distance of nearby train stations, which makes it easy to reach without a car. If you do arrive by car, parking is available inside the building itself.
The name Gofukucho comes from the neighborhood it stands in, which was historically known for its fabric and clothing merchants. That commercial tradition has long since faded, but the name keeps a quiet trace of it alive in the middle of a modern tower.
