Aoi Tower, Skyscraper and art museum in Aoi-ku, Japan
Aoi Tower is a modern skyscraper in Aoi-ku, Shizuoka, Japan, rising 125 meters with 25 floors above ground and 2 basement levels. The building brings together commercial spaces, a museum, and other facilities in one structure.
The tower was completed in 2010 as a steel-reinforced concrete structure, making it one of the more recent additions to Shizuoka's city center. Shortly after opening, an art museum was set up on the third floor, adding a new cultural dimension to the building.
The third floor of the tower houses an art museum that changes its exhibitions regularly throughout the year. This makes it a place where people return more than once, each time discovering something different.
The tower connects directly to Shizuoka Station through an underground passage from the north exit, so arriving by train is straightforward. For those coming by car, the Inamori Parking facility is also directly linked to the building.
The tower's logo was designed with a reference to Mount Fuji's outline and won an award at the One Show for this approach. This connection to the local landscape is visible from the very first look at the building's signage.
