The Tokamachi City Museum contains three main zones that display artifacts related to the Shinano River Basin and regional development.
Founded in 1979, the museum preserves 7,000 Important Tangible Folk Cultural Properties, including 928 collections designated as National Treasures.
The museum exhibits the Echigo chijimi crepe textile collection, documenting traditional weaving techniques from the Jomon period to modern times.
Located at 1-448-9 Nishi-Honcho, the museum opens Tuesday through Sunday from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM with adult admission at 500 yen.
The Snow Country Collection demonstrates how residents adapted to annual snowfall of 2 meters through specialized tools and living practices.
