雲昌寺

Unkanji Temple is a Buddhist temple in Fujisawa that features traditional wooden buildings, a five-story pagoda, and a pond with koi and water plants. The grounds are laid out with gardens that connect the different structures and create spaces for both movement and stillness.

The temple was founded in 1337 by followers of the Buddhist monk Nichiren and stands at a place of spiritual importance to his legacy. The five-story pagoda was added in 1910, representing a later period of development for this long-established site.

Local tradition tells of a bright light that appeared at this location during a significant moment, which later inspired the construction of a memorial monument in 1970. This connection to past events remains visible through the commemorative structure that visitors can see on the grounds today.
