湘南台文化センター, Theater center in Shonandai, Fujisawa, Japan.
The 湘南台文化センター, known in English as the Shonandai Cultural Center, is a theater in the Shonandai district of Fujisawa, in Kanagawa Prefecture. The main hall seats around 600 people and is set up for stage productions, concerts, and dance performances.
The center was opened as part of a city-led effort to support arts and education in Fujisawa and has since been managed by the Fujisawa City Future Creation Foundation. Its opening marked the start of a lasting public commitment to local cultural events in the city.
The center draws audiences from across Fujisawa for performances ranging from traditional Japanese theater to contemporary dance. Local schools and community groups regularly use the space, giving it a role that goes beyond ticketed events.
The center sits close to Shonandai Station, which is served by several train lines, making it easy to reach by public transport. Parking is available on site, though arriving by train is often more straightforward, especially on event nights.
The building also houses a planetarium that runs astronomical shows and educational programs for all ages. This pairing of a theater and a planetarium under one roof is uncommon and gives the venue a role that extends well beyond live performances.
