旧鈴木家住宅, Historic house in Toyota, Japan
The Suzuki Residence spans 4,000 square meters and contains 16 buildings constructed between the late Edo period and the Meiji era.
After a devastating fire in 1775 destroyed most of Asuke town, the Suzuki Residence was reconstructed the following year with enhanced architectural features.
The residence features traditional shitomido shutters and shikorobuki roofing, representing essential elements of Japanese architectural craftsmanship from the early Edo period.
The residence opens from Friday to Sunday and on public holidays between 10:00 AM and 4:00 PM, with free admission and guided tours of ongoing restoration work.
The house displays specialized wooden beams and spatial arrangements that demonstrate the evolution of merchant residences in the Asuke district.
