Kōrankei

Kōrankei is a river canyon in Aichi Prefecture with around 4,000 maple trees lining the banks of the Tomoe River. The trees reflect in the water below, creating natural color patterns that shift with the seasons, especially as autumn leaves change.

The region developed around Asuke Castle, which the Suzuki Clan built as a control center for the area. This fortress shaped the canyon's role in local history.

The site holds an annual maple festival each November that brings together traditional ceremonies and local performances for visitors to experience. These celebrations show how deeply the region connects its identity with the autumn foliage.

The easiest access is by car from Chikaraishi Interchange or by public transit using the Higashiyama Subway Line from Nagoya. Fall is the best time to visit, as the leaf colors are most intense during this season.

On autumn evenings, bamboo lanterns at temples like Kojakuji light up the canyon and reflect in the river below. This nighttime illumination transforms the canyon into a different landscape than what visitors see during the day.
