Mino Kofun Group, Ancient burial site near Himeji, Japan
The Mino Kofun Group contains numerous earthen mounds with distinct geometric shapes, including keyhole, circular, and square formations across the landscape.
Construction of these burial structures occurred between the 3rd and 7th centuries AD, marking a period of increasing social complexity in Japanese society.
The tombs feature terracotta haniwa figures and contain artifacts such as weapons, pottery, and jewelry that reveal the customs of ancient Japanese civilization.
Visitors can access the site through public transportation from Himeji Station, with walking paths connecting the various burial mounds throughout the area.
Each burial mound required thousands of workers to construct, demonstrating the advanced engineering capabilities of ancient Japanese builders.
