神宮橋, Pedestrian bridge at Harajuku, Japan.
Jingubashi is a bridge in Harajuku that crosses the Yamanote Line railway tracks. It connects Harajuku Station directly with the entrance to Meiji Shrine.
An earlier structure from 1920 stood at this location until it was replaced in 1982 by a new concrete construction. The replacement created a design better suited to modern traffic needs.
The bridge has long served as a meeting spot where young people gathered to display fashion styles and connect with others. Weekends brought visitors seeking to see the latest trends and creative expressions in person.
The structure carries both vehicle traffic and pedestrians and is always readily accessible. When visiting the shrine, this is the direct route from the station to reach it.
Though the bridge was completely rebuilt in 1982, decorative pillars from the original 1920 structure were preserved and integrated into the new design. These elements now connect the old structure with the modern one.
