妙経寺, 千葉県市原市にある顕本法華宗の寺院
The Myogyoji is a Nichiren Buddhist temple in Toshima Ward that also serves as a Kanto branch of the Saijo Inari shrine. The grounds contain a main hall, a historic bell, smaller buildings for practice and memory, and spaces dedicated to honoring ancestors.
The temple was founded in 1535 by a monk named Nichisho and follows the teachings of the saint Nichiren. Over time it became an important place for the local community, continuing these spiritual traditions for centuries.
The temple blends Nichiren Buddhist teachings with worship of the Inari deity, reflecting how different spiritual traditions coexist in daily practice here. Visitors notice shrines and altars dedicated to both traditions within the grounds.
The temple is a short walk from Kita-Ikebukuro Station and easy to reach by public transport. The grounds feel quiet and offer space for reflection, though parking is limited so transit is recommended.
The temple houses a historic bell cast by an Edo-period craftsman that remains cared for by the local community. This bell is still rung during special occasions like New Year celebrations.
