The Imperial ranch in Takanezawa is a 252 hectare facility combining pastures, forests, and agricultural buildings across the region. Operations include raising specialized horse breeds and dairy cattle alongside crop cultivation for the imperial household.

The facility was relocated in 1969 from Narita to its current location because the original site was needed for construction of Narita International Airport. This move allowed imperial food production to continue in the Tochigi region.

The ranch produces food exclusively for the Imperial Family using specialized breeding methods with particular horse and cattle breeds that reflect traditional imperial practices.

The facility is not open to public visitors as it operates as a private imperial property under strict administrative control. Information about daily operations is limited due to the confidential nature of imperial household management.

The ranch raises rare horse breeds including Anglo-Arabs and Cleveland Bays bred specifically for imperial purposes. These specialized bloodlines are seldom found outside this particular facility.
