Veii, Archaeological site in Isola Farnese, Italy

The ancient city of Veii occupies 180 hectares of terrain, featuring remains of temples, sanctuaries, and defensive walls along the Tiber River.

The Romans, led by General Marcus Furius Camillus, captured Veii in 396 BC after a decade-long siege that ended Etruscan control of the region.

The Grotta Campana tomb, discovered in 1843, contains the earliest known Etruscan frescoes and demonstrates sophisticated burial practices of the period.

The archaeological park includes multiple excavation areas such as Macchia Grande and Piano della Comunità, connected by marked walking paths.

Underground tunnels beneath the city confirm ancient historian Livy's account of Roman soldiers infiltrating Veii through its water system.
