Nakabashi Bridge, Red bridge in Takayama, Japan

The Nakabashi Bridge spans across the Miyagawa River with its striking red color against the traditional wooden buildings of downtown Takayama.

Built to connect the eastern and western parts of Takayama, the bridge stands as a central point for the biannual Takayama Festival dating from the Edo period.

During the Spring Festival in April, ornate festival floats cross the bridge while cherry blossoms frame the traditional procession of the celebrations.

Located 15 minutes on foot from Takayama Station, the bridge provides direct access to the historic district with its morning markets and traditional shops.

The bridge transforms during seasonal illumination events, particularly in autumn when the red structure reflects in the Miyagawa River among colored maple leaves.
