四天王寺

Shitennoji Temple is a Buddhist sanctuary in Tsu that houses a collection of important artworks spanning different eras. The site contains carved statues and ancient objects protected as cultural properties, reflecting the long history of this place.

The sanctuary originated during the Nara period, as archaeological discoveries confirm, and was rebuilt several times afterward. A major restoration took place following war damage, giving the site its current appearance.

The temple is within walking distance from the station and is well accessible by car. Visitors can find special collectible items on site and explore the grounds freely during quieter times.

The sanctuary houses a three-faced Daikoku statue that received prayers from a powerful feudal leader in the 16th century. This unusual depiction is rarely seen and suggests the special reverence this place once commanded.
