Gifu Seki Cutlery Hall, Knife manufacturing museum in Seki, Japan
The Gifu Seki Cutlery Hall exhibits 2,000 cutting instruments, from kitchen knives to scissors, representing the manufacturing excellence of local artisans.
Founded in 1968, this institution preserves the heritage of Seki's blade crafting tradition, which originated during the Kamakura period over 800 years ago.
The museum serves as an educational center where school children learn about traditional knife making techniques through guided tours and demonstrations.
Visitors can purchase knives directly from manufacturers, participate in sharpening workshops, and request name engravings on their acquisitions within 15 minutes.
The facility features a specialized corner where children under junior high school age can learn pencil sharpening using a safety tool called Scutter.
