Edobashi, Historic bridge in Chuo district, Japan
Edobashi is a bridge crossing the Nihonbashi River in Chuo and connecting the eastern and western sections of Tokyo's commercial center. It accommodates both pedestrians and vehicles, forming an important link in this densely developed urban area.
The bridge originated during the Edo period as a critical connection for trade and transport between city districts. It was damaged during the 1945 air raids and still bears visible marks from those wartime events.
The structure appears in Utagawa Hiroshige's 1857 artwork 'One Hundred Famous Views of Edo', depicting the bridge alongside traditional merchant activities.
The bridge is located near several subway stations and is easily accessible on foot from the Nihonbashi financial district. The location is well connected to Tokyo's public transportation network and can be visited at any time of day.
The structure appears in an 1857 artwork by Utagawa Hiroshige titled 'One Hundred Famous Views of Edo'. This historical depiction shows how the location functioned as a hub of merchant activity during that era.
