Yamahibiki stable, Sumo wrestling stable in Koto district, Tokyo, Japan
Yamahibiki is a training facility for professional sumo wrestlers in the eastern part of Tokyo. The compound includes practice rings made of packed clay and living quarters where the athletes reside together.
The facility emerged in 2015 when former wrestler Yamahibiki Kenji took over its leadership. It continues the tradition of the Kitanoumi stable, which produced many successful fighters over decades.
Inside the training hall, young wrestlers practice their techniques each morning under the supervision of experienced masters. The hierarchy shapes daily life, with the youngest athletes preparing the rooms and serving meals.
Visitors can watch during morning training sessions, which typically take place before 10 AM. Access is on foot from Minamisuna Station, about a ten-minute walk away.
The head of the facility carried the ring name Yamahibiki during his active career in the ring. The building stands at Higashisuna 6-6-3, where visitors can witness the daily routine of wrestlers up close.
