Nagisa Aquarium

Nagisa Aquarium, Public aquarium in Suō-Ōshima, Japan

Nagisa Aquarium displays around 80 species with roughly 750 marine animals from the Seto Inland Sea across several exhibition tanks and specialized habitats. The various displays allow you to explore the sea life of this region from different angles and depths.

The facility first opened in 1990 as a dedicated place to study and display marine animals from this region. It was created to help people learn about the sea life that exists in the waters surrounding the island.

Handmade signs and drawings of local fishermen decorate the facility, showing how the sea has shaped life in this region. These touches help you understand the fishing traditions that people here have practiced for generations.

The aquarium is easy to find and visit, and the early morning hours provide the best experience before crowds arrive. Clear and sunny days offer the best viewing conditions in the tanks, so check the weather before planning your visit.

The facility holds one of the largest collections of alveopora japonica coral, a species with green tentacles that shimmer when lit by natural light. This rare coral type is a highlight that few other aquariums can match.
