Castello di San Michele in Teverina

The castle rises on a tufa promontory overlooking the Calanchi Valley, featuring Renaissance architecture with preserved frescoed ceilings and period furniture.

Built in 1164 by Piero da Mugnano, the fortress was partially destroyed in 1523 during a Baglioni family conflict and rebuilt under Catherine de Medici's influence.

The castle rooms include the Montholon Prince Suite, named after Charles Tristan de Montholon who executed Napoleon's will during his exile in Saint Helena.

The castle functions as accommodations with private suites, independent apartments in former stables, and amenities including an infinity pool and outdoor jacuzzi.

Access to the castle requires crossing a stone bridge, which replaced the original drawbridge that once controlled entry to this elevated stronghold.
