Cascata dell'Infernaccio

The Infernaccio is a waterfall in a deep gorge where the Rigo River drops roughly 20 meters before continuing its path downstream. The river flows through narrow, steep canyons with high rock walls on both sides.

This site sits within one of Lazio's deepest ravines, a place that earned its name due to the extremely difficult terrain. The harsh geography kept people away for centuries.

The river water carries iron deposits that create rust-colored stains along the riverbed, forming a visual contrast with the white cascade. These colorful patterns result from the mineral-rich composition of the flow.

Reaching this site requires hiking experience and sturdy footwear, since the route has steep sections and loose rock underfoot. Visitors should prepare for challenging terrain and narrow paths.

A major rockslide in 2021 partially blocked the river channel below the waterfall, creating a small natural pool. This event changed the landscape in that area since then.
