Orsini Palace in Bomarzo, Italy

Orsini Palace in Bomarzo is a Renaissance residence built on medieval castle foundations near Monte Casoli, retaining defensive features in its design. The structure spans multiple levels and blends fortress elements with the refined style of the Renaissance period.

Baldassare Peruzzi designed this palace in 1519 for Giovanni Corrado Orsini, transforming an earlier castle wing into a noble residence. Later modifications under Ippolito Lante della Rovere added new artistic elements to the structure.

The Orsini and Vitelli family crests are painted on the walls, showing the ties between these noble families and their control of the area. Frescoes depicting local strongholds in the Saletta room serve as a visual record of their territorial influence.

The building now serves as Bomarzo's town hall following major restoration work completed with European Union support. It is worth asking beforehand about access to public areas of the building.

Lorenzo Berrettini painted the Allegory of War and Peace during renovation work, an artwork that visitors often overlook. This composition offers a philosophical perspective on human struggle and resolution that enriches the building's artistic depth.
