Montefiascone Cathedral, Renaissance-Baroque cathedral in Montefiascone, Italy
Montefiascone Cathedral is a Renaissance-Baroque structure featuring a lower church and an upper church connected by a massive 27-meter dome. The building displays architectural elements from multiple periods and stands as one of the region's most notable structures.
This structure was established as an episcopal seat in 1396 and underwent major reconstruction work over the following centuries. A destructive fire in 1670 prompted a redesign of the dome to align with contemporary architectural trends of the period.
The interior preserves marble statues, relics of Saint Margaret of Antioch, Saint Lucia Filippini, and houses the tomb of Cardinal Marco Antonio Barbarigo.
The building is located at Piazzale Santa Margherita and can be seen from various points across Viterbo province. Its central position in Montefiascone makes it easily accessible for visitors exploring the cathedral.
Inside are marble statues and relics of Saint Margaret of Antioch, as well as the tomb of Cardinal Marco Antonio Barbarigo. These artworks and sacred objects make this cathedral an important destination for art lovers and pilgrims.
