The Susami Crustacean Aquarium displays around 150 species of crabs and shrimp in specialized tanks housed within a converted school gymnasium situated near the Pacific coast. The exhibition focuses entirely on these invertebrate sea creatures and their different habitats.

The facility began in 1997 as a single marine tank at Mitoji Station before officially opening at its current location in April 1999. The move to the school building marked the shift from a small experimental display to an established public collection.

The facility displays crustaceans native to local waters of the Kii Peninsula, showing the diversity of marine life that inhabitants encounter in their region. Visitors learn about species that are familiar to local fishermen and coastal communities.

The aquarium is easily reached from nearby JR Station Esumi and is situated in an area that is straightforward to explore on foot. Visitors can take their time walking through the displays since the specialized nature of the collection allows for a leisurely visit.

The institution operates a mobile aquarium service that transports specialized marine displays to different locations across Japan. This program brings the collection to people who cannot visit the main facility.
