Founded in 1701, Mārtiņa cemetery served as a Lutheran burial ground and received its name after the construction of Martina Lutheran Church in 1852.
The cemetery grounds feature numerous memorial structures and gravestones that demonstrate the Latvian traditions of honoring and remembering the deceased.
Visitors can reach the cemetery by taking tram lines 4 or 5 from Centraltirgus to Kuldigas Iela, with three entrances located along Hamana Street.
Twenty-seven documented memorials stand within the cemetery grounds, with seventy-eight percent of them captured through detailed photographic documentation.
