Sidi Ahmed al-Tijani Zawiya, Religious complex in Medina, Fez, Morocco

Sidi Ahmed al-Tijani Zawiya is a religious complex in Fez's medina containing a mosque, study rooms, and a mausoleum decorated with intricate Moroccan architectural details and tilework. The rooms feature geometric patterns, carved woodwork, and ornamental plasterwork throughout.

The complex was established around 1800 when Ahmad al-Tijani, a religious scholar, acquired land in the medina and built structures with local support. It became an important center for religious learning and evolved into a revered shrine following his death in 1815.

The zawiya serves as the spiritual center where followers of the Tijaniyyah order gather to pray and study together. You can observe how visitors from different regions use this space as a place of connection and devotion.

Access to the interior requires permission from members of the Tijaniyyah community who oversee the site. It is important to show respect for religious practices and dress appropriately when visiting.

A marble stone bearing an inscription at the site warns against burying additional people there, placed by the founder's companions after his death. This marker stands as a quiet testament to the reverence held for this place and its early leaders.
