National Church of Nigeria

The National Church of Nigeria is a religious building in Abuja with multiple vaulted arches and a wide central nave leading to a rotating altar platform. The postmodern structure contains a pipe organ in the right wing, a dedicated choir area, and stained glass windows in yellow, green, and red.

Construction began in 1989 but faced delays until 2004, when the Christian Association of Nigeria formed a committee to advance the project. This intervention helped move the work forward, eventually leading to the building's completion.

The church functions as a gathering space for various Christian communities from different regions and ethnic backgrounds across Nigeria. You experience a sense of unity reflected in how the open layout welcomes people from all these different groups.

The building is easy to reach and visitors should know that the central area is spaciously designed. Allow time to explore the different areas, particularly the windows and the organ.

The central altar performs a complete rotation every 10 minutes, creating a dynamic interior space during services. This moving feature allows everyone in the church to experience the altar from different angles.
