Basilica in Stara Wieś, Baroque minor basilica in Stara Wieś, Poland.
The Basilica of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary is a Baroque sacred building with ornately decorated interior spaces featuring multiple side altars positioned throughout its length. The structure displays characteristic 18th-century Baroque design elements and architectural details.
Construction of the structure began in 1730 and concluded in 1760 under the direction of the Pauline fathers, with formal consecration performed by Bishop Wacław Hieronim Sierakowski. This period marked a time of significant religious expansion in the region.
The basilica remains an active place of worship where locals and pilgrims gather for services, prayers, and musical performances throughout the year. The space continues to serve as a spiritual center for the surrounding region.
The building is situated near the Silesian border and can be reached via local roads without difficulty. Regular masses and services are held throughout the week, so it is worth checking locally for current schedules before planning a visit.
A treasured original painting of the Assumption was lost to fire in 1968 but was skillfully recreated by artist Maria Niedzielska from Kraków. This act of restoration reflects how the community preserved its spiritual heritage despite loss.
