Church of St. Michael in Sandomierz, Benedictine monastery church in Sandomierz, Poland
The Church of St. Michael is a three-nave building with corner loggia and galleries. It stands beside the Opatów Gate in central Sandomierz and preserves its original architecture despite modifications from 1903.
After destruction during the Polish-Swedish War, engineer Jan Michał Linek directed reconstruction between 1686 and 1692. The rebuilt structure documents the town's recovery after this conflict.
The building now serves as a seminary and shapes the religious life of the town. The site shows how historical monasteries took on new roles over time and adapted to changing needs.
The location is easy to reach since it sits in the town center beside a well-known gate. Visitors should note that the building continues to serve religious and educational purposes.
A fire in 1966 destroyed most of the interior furnishings, leaving only a few pieces. An eighteenth-century tabernacle is among the objects that survived this fire.
