Skrzyński mausoleum in Zagórzany, Pyramid tomb in Zagórzany, Poland

The Skrzyński mausoleum is a stone pyramid in Zagórzany, a village in the Gorlice district of southern Poland, built as a burial place for the Skrzyński noble family. The pyramid is made of carefully fitted stone blocks and has no ornamental elements on its exterior.

The pyramid was built in 1931 to a design by the architect Teodor Marian Talowski. It was conceived as a scaled-down version of the Cheops pyramid, reflecting how ancient Egyptian forms influenced Central European architecture at that time.

The mausoleum stands on a small hill in the countryside of Zagórzany and immediately draws the eye through its unusual shape. In the region, it is seen as a sign of the wealth and far-reaching cultural connections of the Skrzyński family.

The mausoleum is easy to reach on foot from a small parking area nearby and is clearly visible from several angles. A visit does not take long, but it works well as a stop on a drive through the Gorlice area.

Talowski was known mainly for residential buildings and rarely designed funerary monuments, making this pyramid an unusual piece in his body of work. The choice of an architect with that background for such an unconventional tomb shows how much the Skrzyński family valued originality.
