Skrzyński mausoleum in Zagórzany

Skrzyński mausoleum in Zagórzany, Pyramid tomb in Zagórzany, Poland

The Skrzyński mausoleum is a stone pyramid in Zagórzany that rises 10 meters (33 feet) high with angular walls built from carefully fitted stone blocks. The structure follows a pure geometric form without decorative elements or additional features.

The pyramid was built in 1931 following designs by architect Teodor Marian Talowski as a burial place for the Skrzyński family. The structure was conceived as a scaled replica of Egypt's Cheops pyramid and reflects the influence of ancient forms on European architecture of that era.

The mausoleum served as a family memorial that reflected social standing through its bold architectural choice. The pyramid form conveyed permanence and importance in a period when geometric designs represented progress and distinction.

The mausoleum sits near a small parking area located about 50 meters away, with benches provided for visitors to rest. Access on foot is straightforward, and the site offers clear views of the structure from multiple angles.

This structure ranks among the rare examples of Egyptian-inspired burial architecture in Eastern Europe and completely breaks from local burial customs. The choice of an Egyptian pyramid for a wealthy family in the Polish countryside was unusual and shows cosmopolitan influences present in the 1930s.
