Casa da Quinta de São José

Casa da Quinta de São José is a manor house set across three hectares of sloping land with residential spaces, gardens, archways, stables, and a fountain. Different buildings and garden areas arranged on the slope create the structure of the estate.

The property was founded in the 17th century and originally belonged to the Dukes of Bragança. In the 19th century, it came under the ownership of the Baron of Pomarinho, marking a new period for the house.

Inside, painted wooden ceilings and blue-and-white tiles display the craft traditions of the 18th century. The wall frescoes and decorative details reveal the artistic tastes of the people who once lived here.

The property now functions as a multi-purpose center with tennis courts, a children's pool, exhibition halls, a youth center, and a day care facility for seniors. Visitors should note that different areas may be accessible at different times depending on activities.

Six tile panels on the northern facade depict historical events from the region, including the 1147 Battle of Sacavém. These wall images create a visual link between the building's architecture and the area's past.
