Dzuarikau–Tskhinvali pipeline, Gas pipeline in North Ossetia and South Ossetia, Russia.
The Dzuarikau-Tskhinvali pipeline is a natural gas line connecting two communities in the Caucasus region, running through mountain terrain. The system transports gas through a 426-millimeter diameter pipe that spans rugged ground.
Construction of the pipeline began in 2006, with operations starting in 2009 after the previous gas supply through Georgian territory became unavailable. This infrastructure created a new independent energy connection in the region.
This infrastructure represents a shift in regional energy distribution, transforming the relationship between South Ossetia and neighboring territories.
The pipeline runs through difficult high-mountain terrain that is not accessible to regular visitors. The system is part of larger energy infrastructure and is monitored and operated by specialists.
The line rises to 3,148 meters (10,311 feet) above sea level while passing through 15 tunnels and 29 water crossings in extreme terrain. This number of engineering structures over such a short route makes it a significant technical achievement.
