Church of Saint Nicholas in Rogozhskoe cemetery

The Church of Saint Nicholas in Rogozhskoe is an Eastern Orthodox church with five large blue domes topped with faceted white drums and a three-tiered bell tower crowned with tent-shaped spires. Inside, the building contains three separate altars dedicated to Saint Nicholas, the Protection of the Virgin, and the Three-Handed Icon.

The church began in 1771 during a plague outbreak when authorities granted Old Believers land for burials and permitted construction of a wooden chapel. The current structure was later erected in the 19th century, replacing the original wooden building.

The church displays features from 17th-century Russian architecture and was rebuilt between 1863 and 1866 in Russian Revival style. Visitors can see how traditional design elements were integrated into the building's current appearance.

The complex sits within a cemetery, so it is best visited during daylight hours and with quiet respect. The location is accessible by public transport and the grounds can be freely explored.

The central drum of the church is larger than the others and contains windows to bring light inside. The bell tower construction displays two unusual hanging tent-shaped weights that are rarely seen on other churches.
