Лечебный стул № 0001, Bronze public art chair in Voronezh, Russia
The Healing Chair is a bronze sculpture located in Platonov Square in central Voronezh and stands about 1.3 meters tall. The seat surface bears handprints while each leg carries text inscriptions.
The work is based on a wooden model that artist Alexander Nozhkin created in 1994 before his death in 2000. The bronze sculpture was installed on the square in 2011 as a realization of this earlier artistic vision.
The work is called the Healing Chair and addresses social issues through its design elements. One leg takes the shape of a human foot as a tribute to artist Alexander Nozhkin.
The chair sits in Platonov Square, easily reached from Lenin Square and the regional administration building. Visitors can view the sculpture at any time of day since it occupies a public outdoor space.
Each of the four legs carries different text messages that convey various thoughts to visitors as they pass by. The handprints on the seat are intended to transfer positive energy to people who sit on it.
