Monument to Koltsov in Koltsovsky Garden Square, Federal cultural heritage site in Koltsovsky Garden Square, Voronezh, Russia.
The Monument to Koltsov is a bronze bust on a stone base in Koltsovsky Garden Square, a public green space in the center of Voronezh. The bust faces the main walkways and can be seen from several directions as visitors pass through the park.
The monument was unveiled in 1868 and was the first public sculpture in Voronezh dedicated to a writer. It was created to honor Alexander Koltsov, a poet born in the city in 1809 who wrote about rural life and the natural world.
The memorial shows how Russian literature was woven into the daily life of the city. Koltsov's poems about nature and rural landscapes remain part of how locals view the region around them.
The monument stands along the central paths of the garden square and is easy to reach on foot from the city center. The square is open to the public at all times, and the paths around it are generally clear and flat.
Koltsov came from a modest background, the son of a cattle trader, and had little formal education before becoming one of the most read Russian poets of his time. The monument was erected while some of his closest relatives were still alive, making it rare among tributes to Russian writers of that period.
