Generalnaya Balka is a natural ravine that cuts through central Rostov-on-Don, creating a visible geological feature that separates sections of the city. Multiple stone bridges span the ravine at different points, allowing pedestrian and vehicle traffic to cross the depression.

The ravine takes its name from cattle yards associated with a general that operated in this location during the early 1800s. During the 19th century, the area underwent significant transformation when engineers began building infrastructure across its span.
