Багаевская каплица, Orthodox chapel near Bagaevskaya ferry crossing, Don River, Russia.
Bagaevskaya Chapel is an Orthodox chapel located on the right bank of the Don River near Zadonsky village, close to where the Bagaevskaya ferry crossing once operated. The structure is a small brick building set in a rural landscape along the riverbank.
The chapel was built in 1913 to commemorate the centenary of Napoleon's defeat at Borodino and to honor the former settlement in the area. Its construction came after significant changes to the river landscape that had previously divided the original community.
The structure represents a traditional Orthodox prayer space, serving as a connection point between modern Bagaevka residents and their ancestral heritage.
The chapel is reachable by road in a rural area south of Voronezh and can be difficult to access, especially in poor weather conditions. Visitors should be prepared for its isolated location and plan accordingly.
Between roughly 1800 and 1805 the Don River shifted significantly and split the original town of Bagay into two separate communities. This major change in the river's course shaped settlement patterns and led to this location becoming a gathering point for the scattered population.
