The monument in Novocherkassk features a granite boulder draped with a traditional Cossack woolen garment and topped with a bronze tall fur hat. The base displays inscriptions and a curved Cossack saber protruding from beneath the draped cloth.
The monument was first erected in 1875 at a cemetery in Saint Petersburg. It was relocated to Novocherkassk in 1911 along with the general's remains.
The memorial honors a high-ranking Cossack military commander who fought in the Caucasus during the 19th century. The clothing and symbols displayed on the monument reflect the military traditions of this region.
The location sits in central Novocherkassk near the cathedral, easy to reach on foot. The monument is visible year-round and does not require special conditions for viewing.
The monument's pedestal displays text from an early Christian creed. This unusual addition connects the military memorial with spiritual values of the era.
