Cathedral of the Protection of the Theotokos, Orthodox cathedral in Samara, Russia
The cathedral features five domes in the style of 17th-century Moscow church architecture, with a tent-shaped bell tower above the entrance.
Local merchants, the Shikhobalov brothers, funded the construction with 34,000 rubles in 1857, covering basic masonry and interior work costs.
The cathedral maintains Church Slavonic liturgical traditions and serves as the main Orthodox center of the Samara Metropolitan district.
Located at 75A Leninskaya Street in central Samara, the cathedral accommodates up to 2,000 worshippers for regular services and ceremonies.
During World War II, the cathedral organized fundraising campaigns that contributed to the creation of a tank column named after Dmitry Donskoy.
