Chechen Lighthouse, Lighthouse on Chechen Island, Russia.
Chechen Lighthouse is a cylindrical tower on an island in the Caspian Sea, standing about 41 meters tall. The structure features a balcony and lantern from which light sweeps across the water, with several windows along its white walls.
English builders constructed this lighthouse in 1863, following records of earlier signal lights at the site. The construction marked a formal establishment of navigation aids in this part of the Caspian Sea.
This lighthouse represents the maritime heritage of the Caspian Sea and has served as a visual landmark for seafarers for generations. Sailors recognize its white form from afar and connect it to their relationship with the water.
The interior is reached via a staircase with about 196 steps leading to the lantern room at the top. Access to the island is by boat, so it is best to check weather conditions before planning a visit.
Beyond the tower itself, the island holds several auxiliary buildings including a one-story residence, a bathhouse, and a storage facility. Together they form a complete working complex that once supported the lighthouse keepers' daily operations.
