Church of the Resurrection of Christ, Ulyanovsk, Orthodox church in Ulyanovsk, Russia
The Church of the Resurrection of Christ is a stone church building with classical Byzantine architectural features typical of Russian religious construction. It sits on a slope near the Sviyaga River and features a central dome arrangement with decorative elements on both the facade and interior.
The building was constructed in 1911 and stands as one of the last remaining stone churches from the pre-revolutionary era in the region. It remains the sole stone church surviving from the original 27 temples of ancient Simbirsk that existed before the Soviet transformation.
The church embodies Russian Orthodox traditions in its spatial design and decorative approach, reflecting how faith shaped the building's character. Its dome structure organizes the interior space in a way that guides visitors through different zones of worship.
The building sits on a slope beside the river and is accessible on foot, with the surroundings inviting exploration. Regular services take place during the week, and visitors should check current visiting times before arriving.
The architect F. Livchak deliberately incorporated design elements from much earlier centuries, specifically from the 13th to 15th centuries, into the building. This intentional reference to older Byzantine forms gave the structure a timeless quality that set it apart from churches of its own era.
