Park of North River Terminal, Historic park in Levoberezhny District, Moscow, Russia
The Park of North River Terminal is a green space in the Levoberezhny District of Moscow, situated along the Khimki Reservoir and directly adjacent to the river terminal building. The grounds are divided into several zones with walking paths, sports areas, and planted sections spread between the waterfront and the terminal.
The site was laid out in 1937 as part of the construction of the Moscow Canal, designed by engineer Timofey Shafranski. From the start it served as a resting area for passengers arriving at or departing from the river terminal.
The fountains with swan sculptures and the Soviet-era buildings on the grounds show a style that was widespread in the 1930s. Visitors walking through the park notice these details along the paths and at the central squares.
The grounds are easy to walk through, with wide paths that connect the different zones without requiring any particular fitness level. Getting to the waterfront side gives a clear view of the reservoir and the terminal building together.
The park once contained a miniature canal with eight working lock models, each named after a real structure on the Moscow Canal. The small-scale system ended with a replica of the terminal building itself.
