The Porokhovaya Tower rises as part of the Nizhny Novgorod Kremlin walls, featuring three visible levels and one underground floor with defensive openings.
The tower, constructed in the 16th century, stored gunpowder and ammunition, leading to its current name which translates from Russian as Powder Tower.
This federal cultural heritage site stands as a testament to Russian military architecture, displaying traditional defensive construction methods of medieval fortifications.
Visitors can reach the observation deck at the top level through guided tours, offering views across the Volga River and Minin and Pozharsky Square.
The lower chambers of the tower developed natural limestone stalactites on their ceilings over centuries, creating formations similar to cave structures.
