Villa Gadelius, Saltsjöbaden, Private residence in Saltsjöbaden, Sweden

Villa Gadelius sits on Kaptensbacken hill and features a northeastern tower with an open veranda overlooking the northern shoreline of Neglingeviken. The property has served multiple purposes over its lifetime, including functions as a school, studio, preschool, and temporary housing.

Architect Gustaf Wickman designed this residence in 1896 for bank director Carl Jansson. Businessman Knut Gadelius purchased it in 1928 and gave the property the name it still carries today.

The building shows a mix of national romantic design with American East Coast influences visible in its wooden details and decorative elements. These features reflect the style choices of wealthy residents during the early 1900s in this seaside area.

The building sits on an elevated location with water views, making its position easy to spot from surrounding areas. Visitors should know that this is a private residence and its interior spaces are generally not accessible to the public.

The building preserves several original features including tiled stoves, inlaid beams, and a grand entrance hall with its initial staircase and railings. These details have survived intact in ways that are uncommon for buildings of this age and style.
